David R. Sutherland, 82 of Kenton passed away on Wednesday, February 10, 2021. He was born in Logan County on January 4, 1939 to the late John R. and Mabel R. (Sickles) Sutherland. David married Sara Sue "Suzie" Crates on June 10, 1967 and she survives along with children; Jeffrey (Karen) Sutherland, Pamela (David) Smith both of Kenton, four grandchildren; Nathan (Amanda Braun) Sutherland, Natalie (Ryan) Noyes, Erica (Ethan) Shepherd, Amber Smith, six great-grandchildren; Nicole, Abram, Hunter, Mabel, Winchester, Gideon and sister-in-law, Carol Sutherland of New Mexico. David is also survived by his sister, Linda Hicks of Kenton and brother, Dick (Dee) Sutherland of Sun City West, AZ. Mr. Sutherland was preceded in death by two brothers; John and Bob Sutherland, sister, Helen Collins and brother-in-law, Don Hicks. David began his career working as an ice man for Crystal Ice and Cold Storage, he was the last "Ice Man" in Kenton. He then worked for Kenton Structural Steel, Rockwell and finally, Kenton City Schools where he worked maintenance for 20 years. Visitation for David will be held on Monday, February 15, 2021 from 11:00am - 1:00pm at the SCHINDEWOLF-STOUT-CRATES FUNERAL HOME. A funeral service will begin at 1:00pm on Monday with Pastor Steve Hess officiating. Burial will follow in Grove Cemetery. Memorial contributions can be made in memory of David to Christian Missionary Alliance Church, 15436 OH-309, Kenton, OH 43326 or a charity of the donor's choice. So sorry to hear of Dave’s passing. I had hoped to see you both at Don’s viewing but I understand I just missed you.
I remember growing up and spending a few days with them on the farm. As Dave and I were pretty close in age, he loved to tease me unmercifully. I have thought about that a lot in recent years.
As my kids were growing up and involved in sports/cheerleading, I would see him when Elgin played at Kenton. He was always fun to be around — probably my favorite cousin.
