Richard G. "Rick" Smith, 76, of Kenton passed away on Thursday, April 30, 2020. Rick was born on February 28, 1944 in Kenton to the late Robert and Bonnie (Benjamin) Columber. He married Penny Emberling on March 9, 1979 and she survives along with five children: Tim (Angela) Emberling of Kenton, Deanna (Chris) Terrell of Quincy, IL, Richard (Josephine) Smith of Bellefontaine, Tara (Don) Rowe of Findlay, and Alisha Hatcher of Kenton. Rick is also survived by his sister, Roberta (Clayton) Jackson of Kenton; ten grandchildren; and nine great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his brother, Robert E. Columber. Rick worked for several service garages, Smith's Towing, and the Chevrolet Garage. He enjoyed gardening and was a friend to everyone he met. Rick was also a member of the Berea Baptist Church. Visitation for Rick will be held from 11:00am-1:00pm on Monday, May 4, 2020 at the SCHINDEWOLF-STOUT-CRATES FUNERAL HOME. A family-only funeral service will begin at 1:00pm on Monday, May 4, 2020 at the funeral home, with Pastor David Kiper officiating. Burial will follow in Grove Cemetery. The family will hold a public memorial service at a later date. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions can be made to the family c/o Stout-Crates Funeral Home.
